I headed back to Berlin after Freiburg because it was an awesome city and I made some good friends there. It was sort of a two week break from the up-beat traveling, (life is rough, right?!), so I don’t have much to report, but here’s some random photos of random things.
some guy whipped this up while we were catching some rays at the beach!
need I say more?
If I didn’t know better, I would have thought it was an earthquake. The bass could be heard shaking the buildings long before any other signs of what was going on became evident. Then a series of police cars drove down the street, followed by a truck FILLED with speakers and then a parade of berliners carrying their open beers in hand and dancing as hard as ever to the overwhelming techno. There were at least 4 of these trucks following one another with different music in each. This abandoned building right in the heart of Berlin is the used-to-be Stasi headquarters of east Berlin under Soviet influence. The Stasi were the secret police or “Schild und Schwert der Partei” (Shield and Sword of the Party) that went to oppressive measures of torture to gather intelligence and stop traitors and defectors. Seems fitting to visit such a building while I’m reading 1984!
couldn’t get enough climbing during my break from climbing
Broken climbing partner. I tried returning for a new one but they wouldn’t let me…
